Cortex and PluggedIN to Host Startup Talent Showcase

Cortex and PluggedIN will host the second annual Startup Talent Showcase March 28 at CIC @4240. Local businesses and jobseekers alike can join members of the St. Louis innovation community for a unique chance to jump-start careers.

Unlike a traditional job fair, the showcase will not only provide college students and recent graduates an opportunity to pitch themselves to startups and corporate companies, but also a chance for those companies pitch themselves to students.

“This event is unique because it goes beyond students’ resumes,” said Phyllis Ellison, Cortex’s Director of Entrepreneurial Services. “The recruiters and students both get a chance to make their wish lists as they’re listening to each other. And then they get a chance to follow up right there on site, versus going away and having recruiters sift through resumes, and following up a few weeks later.”

The showcase is an extension of Cortex’s efforts to match startups with great intern talent.

“It can be a challenge for companies to take the time to field resumes and do the postings,” Ellison added. “This is a great chance for people to see each other live, talk that evening, and really get a good feel for the skills and personality of the person.”

The showcase is open to all students and recent graduates. In past years, Cortex and other local companies have hired interns working toward a wide array of majors – finance, marketing, engineering, science, and others.

“We are especially looking forward to students who are St. Louis natives, who might be attending schools outside of the city, but want to return to St. Louis to do internships for the summer,” Ellison said.

Students and graduates who attend might also discovered newfound career options they haven’t considered.

“We’ll have a mix of both corporates and startupghs, and to me that’s a perfect blend,” Ellison said. “Because you may have students who think they only want to work for corporations, but then they get to hear from startups – and vice versa.”

Due to limited time, students, graduates, and businesses who wish to attend should register at
