On June 19, 2017, Governor Eric Greitens launch the Governor’s Innovation Task Force and charged a coalition of leaders from businesses, innovation communities, academia, and the public and private sectors to analyze how the state of Missouri supports entrepreneurship today and to also recommend changes and options needed to remain competitive in the future.
During the initial Task Force launch, Governor Greitens said “Accelerating the growth of good paying jobs is critical to Missouri’s future. Missouri must find smart, efficient ways to support innovation, entrepreneurs, and new technology start-ups. While Missouri has emerged as a hub for innovation in the Midwest, more must be done if we are to remain competitive and reach Missouri’s full potential as a national leader. The work of the Governor’s Innovation Task Force will ensure that Missouri’s strategy is informed by the best minds from business, non-profits, and government.”
In response to the Governor’s initiative, the Hawthorn Foundation supported an all volunteer, 33 – member steering committee with representatives from academia, business, entrepreneurs, government, civic and innovation organizations, The steering committee worked to meet the challenge of delivering a final report with recommendations by end of August. On September 5, 2017, members of the steering committee presented a final report to the Governor during a meeting at the Center for Emerging Technologies (CET) within the Cortex Innovation Community district.

Before the presentation, Governor Greitens visited with Blake Marggraff, the Founder, and CEO of Epharmix to engage in a demonstration of its digital healthcare platform, and to see Missouri innovation in action.
